Position Snapshot

• Role: Full-Time Nanny & Family Assistant

Meet the Family

We’re a warm, active family of four in South Park, looking for a Family Assistant who genuinely enjoys being part of children’s everyday lives. Our ideal nanny isn’t someone who simply keeps everyone fed and on schedule — they’re someone who observes closely, notices the tiny things, celebrates each new milestone, and understands when to gently guide a child versus when to step back and let them lead. They know when a walk around the neighborhood can become an opportunity for exploration and discovery, and they’re equally comfortable giving a child the uninterrupted time and space to become deeply absorbed in their own play.

Our son is a toddler with a serious appreciation for the important things in life: bugs, animals, rocks, building, puzzles, Play-Doh, and being outside. He’s naturally curious and loves having the freedom to explore and investigate — and he’ll happily show you exactly where the good rocks are. He’s a cheerful rule-follower who responds well to a calm, respectful approach and gentle guidance. He’s usually quiet and observant for the first few minutes with someone new, then completely silly once he’s decided you’re his person.

Our daughter is a sweet, content baby who is sleeping well and becoming more curious by the day. She’s at that wonderful stage of taking in everything around her, and we love giving her plenty of opportunities to explore, move, and interact with the people and world around her.

We’re thoughtful about our children’s routines and development without needing every moment to be perfectly orchestrated. We value structure and consistency while also giving children plenty of uninterrupted time for independent, child-led play. We don’t use screens during the nanny’s working hours, and we speak to our children conversationally, using rich, age-appropriate language and trusting that they understand far more than they may yet be able to express. We encourage independence, curiosity, practical life skills, and the confidence that comes from giving children the time and space to try things for themselves. We aim to offer guidance without over-directing, creating an environment where children feel capable, respected, and eager to explore.

We travel domestically and internationally a few times a year and would love for our nanny to join us. Most of all, we’re looking for someone who wants to become a trusted, long-term part of our family’s life.

The Role

This is a childcare-focused position with family-assistant responsibilities woven into the quieter parts of the day — during naps and stretches when one or both children are at preschool. It is not a housekeeping position. Family-assistant tasks are limited to child-related responsibilities that keep the children’s days and spaces running smoothly.

Days will be active and varied, with plenty of time for parks, classes, museums, playgroups, play gyms, reading, singing, crafts, sensory activities, and outdoor exploration, balanced with uninterrupted child-led play. The family’s approach is Montessori-inspired, play-based, and screen-free during working hours, with an emphasis on independence, practical life skills, rich language, and respectful guidance.

With the Toddler

You’ll plan and facilitate engaging, hands-on experiences that follow his interests — from sensory activities and outdoor exploration to building, puzzles, and plenty of bug-and-rock investigation. You’ll support his growing social world through playdates, nanny meetups, park groups, and classes, while fostering independence through practical life skills such as simple cooking at his kitchen tower, helping with his own laundry, putting toys away, and participating in age-appropriate household routines.

Potty learning will be part of the role, and we’re looking for someone who has supported a child through this transition before. Routines and boundaries are held consistently, warmly, and respectfully.

With the Infant

You’ll care for a generally content, increasingly curious baby while following the family’s established routines and guidance from her pediatric and physical therapy team. She has mild torticollis and is currently working with a physical therapist. You’ll follow parent and PT guidance around positioning and side-lying bottle feeding and communicate thoughtfully with the parents about anything you observe or that seems to be changing.

You’ll prioritize safe sleep and provide plenty of tummy time, floor play, reading, and gentle sensory exploration. Prior baby-wearing experience is required, and you should be confident using a soft-structured carrier safely and comfortably, including while out and about.

You’ll log feeds and sleep in Huckleberry and, around six months, support baby-led weaning using Solid Starts. The family has a subscription and an iPad available for easy reference, and you’ll prepare and serve foods in safe, developmentally appropriate forms.

Responsibilities

Family-assistant responsibilities:

• Prepare, wash, and sanitize bottles and breast pump parts.

• Prepare and restock nursery and changing areas so children’s materials are accessible, organized, and ready for use.

• Support developmental milestones through child-led, hands-on, play-based learning, sensory exploration and practical life activities.

• Provide daily outdoor experiences in all seasons, encouraging movement, nature exploration, observation, and connection with the environment.

• Teach and encourage age-appropriate practical life skills, such as tidying, putting materials away, helping with laundry, and caring for personal belongings.

• Manage children’s laundry and involve children, when appropriate, in simple steps such as sorting, folding, and putting clothing away.

• Empty and maintain the diaper pail and keep changing areas clean and sanitary.

• Unload and load the dishwasher, wipe down kitchen counters and floors after using the kitchen

• Help prepare healthy foods and snacks for the children, encouraging age-appropriate participation in food preparation and kitchen-related practical life activities.

• Rotate and sanitize toys, art supplies and sensory activities
• Pick up and drops offs for school and other activities

• Model calm, respectful behavior and use positive guidance that supports emotional regulation, problem-solving, and independence

• In the future the family would like to have assistance with general tidying/light cleaning, errands, meal prep, and family laundry when the children are in school.

Required Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional nanny experience, including demonstrated experience caring for an infant and toddler simultaneously

• Confident, experienced baby-wearing with soft-structured carriers; the family owns several, including Ergobaby, Tula, Happy Baby, and Boba

• Experience with baby-led weaning

• Safe, confident driver with a clean driving record and comfort navigating Charlotte traffic

• Current CPR and First Aid certification, or willingness to obtain before starting

• Comfortable using technology to log feeds and sleep and reference Solid Starts for BLW preparation

• Comfortable working in a home with a cat

• Excellent communication skills and collaborative mindset

• Willingness to complete a full background screening, including criminal, driving, and reference checks

• Legally authorized to work in the United States

• Experience supporting an infant with feeding challenges or mild physical therapy needs is a plus, but not required
