There are over “21.5 million working mothers with children under the age 18” working within the United States according to the U.S. Department of Labor. These mothers come from a variety of backgrounds ranging from single mothers, mothers in the process of separating from their spouse, mothers of adopted children, mothers of children with special needs, stay-at-home-mothers, mothers of a minority background, full-time working mothers, people who identify as moms, to disabled mothers. Working mothers are one of the most unique humans, often delicately balancing office and home life while still providing the best care possible for their little ones.
Family First Travel Nannies, a temporary and travel nanny agency based out of Charlotte, North Carolina would personally like to offer mothers a round of applause. With International Women’s Day upon us, we took some time to do some research on working mothers. A blog post from the U.S. Department of Labor, 12 Statistics of Working Women depicts what an integral and vital part of the workforce that women make-up, a large percentage of them with children at home. Some facts pulled from the blog:
- Seventy percent of mothers with children under 18 participate in the labor force, with over 75 percent employed full-time.
- Mothers are the primary or sole earners for 40 percent of households with children under 18 today, compared with 11 percent in 1960.

International Women’s Day is a perfect time to reflect on what roles working moms partake in day to day life and just how much they contribute.
